Hi All,
I posted this to U-Tube here's the link, youtu.be/xlXXzaAjU-Q I left detailed a description in the comments also on my video I apologize for the length, but could not edit to much of it as not to delete the audio portion..... feel free to fast forward through it, but you may forward through some of the audio com transmissions.
This video was made to help trouble shoot a brand new Garmin 255A NAV/COM This problem started the day I took delivery of my Brand New Tecnam P-2008 a beautiful airplane! I contacted my dealer he informed me that there were no issues with the radio that he knew about. I did my 5 hour check out and flew in and around Mankato the radio was Perfect!" But" I had never contacted ATC during my training. I departed Mankato MN Mid November 2019 Very excited to fly home in my brand new airplane. I contacted Minneapolis Center they could hear me, but broken when they returned my radio call I could barely hear them over an extremely loud squeal which was at times unbearable. I immediately contacted my dealer and tried in vain to record it in flight and was not successful. He thought I may have changed or bumped the radio I informed him everything was set just as it was while I was doing my check out. I had ATC repeat my flight following instructions several times I could hear other traffic without the squeal. I made it back to las Vegas and contacted Garmin. The airplane and avionics are under factory warranty. After a couple of months speaking to the Dealer And Garmin none of which was of little help! they gave me several things to try. I bought brand new head sets even thou I had just bought brand new Dave Clark head sets ( The $900.00 noise reduction set ) which I had flown From Las Vegas to Mankato with out any communication Issues at all! I ordered Zulu light speed 3 head sets, No change I reseated the com cords, checked wiring made sure they were set specifically for this radio. I had my local Garmin dealer check the antenna output all good. All ground radio checks good. Ground to air perfect! He replaced my brand new radio with another New 255A NAV/Com it seemed a little better, but basically the same....... The Garmin avionics guy said he could not replace the radio without further Proof he agreed to fly with me the following week No Call No Show! Very disappointing. I guess the word warranty really has NO meaning? Just extremely frustrated with the whole situation. Buying an airplane is not like buying a new car your on your own to trouble shoot and repair it your self! Warranty What does that word mean? well here it is Mid April 2020 and have no resolution to this issue. Which prompted the production of this video. Those of you reading this please feel free to make any positive recommendations it would be most appreciated! And thank you in advance for your assistance. I will be posting this video to as many sources that I can...........................

Search "Radio Squeal" on this forum.
Others, including me, had squeal issues and posted about them on this forum.

Iβm wondering, could it be a harness or antenna issue? Or, possibly electrical, like electrical interference. Iβve seen/heard bad alternators or generators causing issues like yours. Was shielding checked on all your connectors and wiring?

Hey Ray,
Interesting and frustrating at the same time. Seems to be a very common issue. You might recall I had the same thing happen to me (explained here I think in a few different posts). I do however have a Dynon radio. Cropped up while taking my new plane home. Seemed to be a problem in the lower frequencies. I would get a loud squeal when transmitting. ATC could barely hear me. I could hear them fine. Is your issue just on reception? And is this a different type of radio from your previous? We did all the things you did trying to ID the issue. Finally I told Dynon I was out of ideas. I am fortunate as I live 1 hr from Dynon so one of the salesmen I have gotten to know came to my hanger with a new radio and that solved the problem. It was blamed on manufacturing quality control. There are too many things that conspire to make radio comms difficult. The last thing you need is an issue that is built into the radio or plane making your life hard. Golly I wish I had an answer. Seems to me that the problem belongs to the dealer/Tecnam. I know that is easier said than done.
On another issue thanks for the video very cool. Boy you get to fly over a lot of emptiness. What are those sun shades you are using?

Was shielding checked on all your connectors and wiring? Hi Slingpilot, My last P-2008 it had an external alternator installed for the same reasons which cured all the radio interference squeal issues.......It was doing the same thing as my new P-2008 yes, they have checked the antenna receive and transmit all good. Replaced the radio with a new 255A no change I made the flt video so everyone could hear it.... They always come back with all the usual things, Headsets, Mike gain, wrong settings, bumped something and on an on........ Thanks for you input itβs very much appreciated! Just frustrating this started the day I took delivery of my new P2008. I figured I would have at least a few months before starting the long road of starting the repair process ....... 6 months later numerous emails, questions no progress and still not repaired and yes, I have a two year warranty on the Airplane and 3 year warranty on the radio gear still try to figure out what the word Warranty Means? I am thinking it means trouble shoot and fix it your self......... Ray & Lucyβ

πβοΈππ»ππΊπΈ I hear you Ray. I had a nagging electric trim issue in my Grumman Cougar, which several shops couldnβt fix. The only time it worked was when coupled to the A/P. Manually from the yoke, it worked in one direction. Luckily I had a trim wheel, many new planes forgo the wheel these days. We refurbished the plane from nose to tail cone. When the interior and panel were completed and we flew it, the trim issue was, NO MORE. The only thing we could attribute the fix to, was the refurbishment of the Yokes. We sent them out to be stripped and power coated. They came back and were totally rebuilt. We had only previously changed the trim switch. So, somewhere in the bowels of the left yoke handle or wiring to the trim motor, which all were checked earlier, but nothing found, the problem was fixed with the rebuild and new wiring.

Hi Slingpilot,
Glad to hear you fixed your long time squawk! I am with you thatβs probably the issue with my P-2008 A ground or something in the wiring when the airplane was built..........

Ray, If I had an idea how to fix the problem I would in a heartbeat, but this one is beyond my capability. We certainly wouldn't have delivered it that way if we had known. I personally flew this plane back from Florida on flight following without issue so still makes me wonder if its something simple. Its going to take a good Garmin avionics tech to get it resolved. I suggest calling Garmin G3X support and ask what they suggest if Josh is out of Ideas.
Keep us informed.

Thanks Mark,
I have have been working with Josh he created a job ticket with Tecnam..... did you listen to the video I made? And Yes, I do believe you that there was no squawk when you flew The airplane back from Florida....... itβs just really frustrating........ no one seems to know the fix and I have done everything under the sun to correct this issue including hours speaking to Garmin And reading everything on the net to concerning radio grounding issues its like I stated before ... maybe it needs a capacitor installed between radio and the on board power supply...... Leading edge airfoils is sending me new float kits....... I weighed the floats and they were way over in terms of weight 9.36 grams total. They should be 7 grams or less... and Rotax will warranty the parts, but not the labor....... like I stated before my original airplane had the exact same issue and it was solved by and external alternator and capacitor..........
And I do appreciate everything you and Pat have tried to do......
Most Respectfully
