So I'm flying back from Minnesota; got a late start on June 7 and decided to overnight in Joplin, MO. On the 8th, I flew down to Houston (beautiful day, by the way). While talking to Razorback Approach (NW Arkansas Regional KXNA and Fort Smith KFSM Charlies...), the controller queried "Hey, November 837TA, were you at Sun N Fun?" I was a little shocked by the conversation (that almost never happens, ever!) and I replied; "sorry Approach, I missed it - was in Florida the week before." He says "Oh, I spent some time talking to an Astore pilot there - I love that airplane!"
I thanked him and observed that he was the first controller I had ever had who not only knew what ASTO meant, but pronounced Astore correctly - that I was normally called an "Aerostar" or an "Asto," *laughing*. He said he knew a lot of the LSAs and experimentals because he had worked Oshkosh for the previous 8 years...
Anyway, a nice exchange on a great day for flying ... so, now we know - at least ONE controller knows the Astore and its ICAO code!!!
Cheers!
