Signed a contract and made a deposite on Tecnam's turbo Astore demonstrator located in Sebring - N837TA. Here is a link to the Plane & Pilot magazine article about this aircraft: www.planeandpilotmag.com/article/its-fast-flashy-flexible/#.V08rMvnyuUkGreat looking airplane, inside and out. Amazing interior, cool paint job - and only 54 engine time hours. Aircraft has basically all the options except the chute ... Delivery on or within a day of my 57th birthday!!! Will sort out the flight review and transition training logistics here shortly. Plus I need to buy a bunch of "plane and hangar stuff." Very excited - should be a bumpy transition experience and flight home to Houston there along the Gulf Coast in July!!! Cheers!!

Congratulations MackAttack! It's not everyday you can buy a plane that's been featured in a magazine!
Just an absolutely beautiful aircraft, and that interior is like an Italian sports car!
What's the timeline for pickup, etc?

Exact dates TBD but likely pickup and do paperwork on July 6, transition training on July 7 and 8. Still TBD on my flight review... not sure the best approach for that yet

I wouldn't think it would hurt to get some flying time under your belt. I would hire a CFI and fly a couple times a week in the next month. What have you got for LSA rentals locally?

I have to say that I can remember the day I saw the first picture of 837TA. It was love at first sight haha! It's the ultimate low wing two-seat aircraft indeed! Smooth sleek lines, Ferrari grumble inside the cowl, and plush Ferrari sports performance interior. I was taken back by that airplane and I remember telling Mark while eating in Sebring during lunch that 837TA, "was just plain sick." Congrats Joel! So excited for all of y'all!

When is your arrival in Sebring scheduled MackAttack?

I arrive in Tampa about 4 pm on the 5th, then drive to Sebring. Starting with Shannon for the paperwork on the morning of the 6th, then as much dual as we can fit in, WX permitting. Early start for the trip back on the 7th is the current plan, arriving Houston either late on the 7th or more likely on the 8th. It all depends on WX on the way back ...

It will take you 8 hours to get to Sealy if you do not have any head winds. If you go flight following through Houston, the ATC will direct you down the I10 corridor at 1700'. Fun! If you don't flight-follow, you will have to go north of town through Cleveland and avoid the ATC staying under the ClassB. I have done both. Be sure to leave Sebring at the crack of dawn as the cumulus buildups will drive you out of the air by very early afternoon. Because of that you may not make it in 1 day. Hey you may be lucky and get a high pressure system.......
I flew from Sebring to Inverness today. Minimal cumulus on my trip down but by my return at 1PM, I climbed to 10,000 and still could not get over the tops. Had to go under (cloud base 3500') north of Lakeland and stomach the turbulence the remainder of the way to Inverness. I can only take a couple hours of that getting tossed around before I start getting woozy. Afternoon cumulus are a real problem on the Gulf Coast from mid June to October. Just like in Houston huh.

You have accurately described my plan and the options. We had great WX here until noon then the CU field built up and we had a line of thunderstorms hit at 3. Shannon is flying with me to provide the transition training. We hope to do it in one day but it could take two. Hopefully we can get to Gulfport/Biloxi area at least on day one. Then it's 330 NM from there plus or minus. Whether we fly through the I10 VFR corridor or go around the Bravo will probably depend on the time of day and cloud situation. Definitely plan on leaving Sebring right at sunrise ...
