Some more accurate measurement in the Astore confirmed the extra 1 3/4" EarthX battery height would make it too much of a close fit to the engine mount lower member in the photo. It would probably fit - but only just, and would require fabricating a new battery clamp. So I'll have to go with the Odyssey.

Hi Grant,
Nice! Please keep us informed on how well it preforms. I am interested to see how it goes I am considering the earth-x when it comes time to replace My present battery ........

Any updates on how the lithium battery has performed? Is it worth the EarthX battery vs the Odyssey battery? From what I understand, the EarthX lithium battery weighs 8 lbs less, so it saves over a gallon of fuel in weight alone!

Grant, Can you give us any feedback on the EarthX ETX900 you installed in your P2008, any starting differences?
I'm due for a new battery in my P2008 and considering the EarthX.

Hi All, There seems to be a lot of discussion on the battery topic. I have the 914 Turbo with the G3X it has the Odyssey PC545 and I have done a lot of research and from I read is a very good reliable battery. I have flown with the PC545 and had absolutely O problems …….. I was looking into the Earth X Lithium as a replacement a major weight reduction PC545 11.5 pounds vs 5 pounds for the earth X battery. I have noted some of you change out the PC545 every two years regardless and make it a personnel time change item. The question I have is just to the right of the PC545 is a thin maybe one inch X 12 inch battery battery. How often does this battery need to be changed? And I assume it’s a back up battery for the G3X …….. and if your using a lithium battery charger does this little grey battery do ok with the lithium charger……. Thanks in advance for your inputs…… Ray & Lucy 👍🏻☀️😊🐶🇺🇸

Sorry I didn’t see the report requests before. So far the Earthx has been perfect. Starts right up in any weather. Virtually zero discharge. I have had in my plane for 1+ year now. The EarthX ETX900 battery seems very expensive compared to the Odysee PC545. $449 compared to $110. What makes it worth 4 times what a PC545 costs?

Whole different thing. The Odyssey is a traditional lead acid battery. Mine is lithium ion. When I compared weight, cold weather performance, life, discharge profile, etc, this is what I chose. And I have been happy. Not saying it’s right for everyone. It’s a heck of a lot more as you point out. For me, I was sick of replacing lead batteries and this has worked out well. The EarthX ETX900 battery seems very expensive compared to the Odysee PC545. $449 compared to $110. What makes it worth 4 times what a PC545 costs? Sure, I understand. Here in North Texas with mostly mild temperatures, the ETX900 lithium probably isn't needed. The Odyssey works just fine for me. The cold hit us hard in February with 8 inches of snow and the outside air temperature hovered around zero to -2 for almost 3 days. But my hangar (behind my house) never got below 38 degrees during that time. Two days later my Rotax started with no issues but my PC545 was only a couple of months old then. My original battery starting showing signs of weakness after 52 months so I changed last December. I don't remember it being much of an issue and took maybe all of 30 minutes. Easy compared to my other plane. That battery is partially recessed into the firewall and that takes me a good 2 hours to change. And it's a $700 battery so I'm pleased that a $100 battery works in the Tecnam.

My Odyssey PC545 gave up the ghost after 3 years (I've owned my P2008 for 15 months). Bought another today from AutoZone for $140 ... inflation!

Hi All,
Spoke with Josh at Tecnam Sebring he informed me I would need an loa to install the earthX battery. A previous P-2008 owner applied for the Loa and it came back denied. The fact that Grant moved his airplane to the experimental category allowed him to use the earthX. Glad it worked for him! Going to replace the PC545 along with the buffer battery that sits right beside it next annual. If anyone needs the part number for the buffer battery here it is A512/2S price $20.00 shipped
