Have a couple of issues and just wondering what you guys think.
1. I have been taping my oil cooler to get the temp up. I have about 1/3 of it covered and it is still not enough. Its about 55 outside. Seems like a lot of tape. What is your experience with amount of tape? 2. I have been getting a lot of noise on the radio breaking through the squelch. Its very annoying. Any one experience similar issues? I have increased the squelch setting. Seems like it goes away when I turn off the Nav light switch. I do have a strobe light that is not flashing correctly and needs replaced. My radio is Dynon.

Can't help you with #1. I've never taped off my radiator. As far as #2 goes, define "noise" Is the noise a recent development?

What’s your oil temp at in cruise? Typically use two layers of painters masking tape to cover about 1/3 of the oil cooler and radiator on really cold days.

You didn't happened to add any new LED lights. So.e of those will cause major static.

Buzz....I may have responded to this issue in the past with my foam tape picture. I'm a snow bird in Sarasota FL. I have my oil cooler covered about 40% even here in Florida. I'll see 210-214 degrees F in a sustained climb (ground OAT 80F). In cruise at about 5250 rpm with an OAT of about 65-70, I'll be just in the green at 199. I started with a 2" strip, added another 1" then added a 3rd 1" strip which keeps me in the green. I've been advised that at some point during your flight you want to see over 2l2 to dissipate moisture but I would would think any water would vaporize even with lower temps with some sustained cruise over 30 minutes. In Wisconsin during the summer I would never get in the green until I used the tape. As an afterthought...I have never noticed any moisture on my oil cap before or after the tape, unlike my big bore Continentals.
Just an FYI....My heads run about 162F in cruise and maybe just a touch warmer in climb. 914 Turbo.

Even here in north Texas I keep about half of the cooler taped most of the year to get the oil hot enough to cook off the moisture. Our oil coolers are very effective. IMO you'll not likely ever see any moisture on the oil tank cap as the Rotax oil system is not vented to outside air like Continentals. In fact there better not be any air circulating in the Rotax oil system. That's one of the things a Rotax qualified mechanic checks after an oil and filter change. There is a procedure to check for air bubbles in the valve train and a procedure to purge air from the oil system. Comparing your Rotax to a Continental is apples to oranges.

At first I thought it was distant radio traffic but I asked other planes if they were getting this noise and they said no. Seems to show up just about the time I am ready to take off. Going on at least several months.

My oil temps have always run slightly on the cool side even in the summer. I am typically in the 170 to 180° range. On very warm days I may get into the 190 area.

Thanks Hi Buzz, 1# My Avionics guy gave me an in line filter I would get the squelch break from time to time..... It goes between the radio and the antenna, seems to help. #2 I use a two inch wide piece of aluminum tape MUCH better than painters tape plus the aluminum blocks the air better and it looks cool! I hope this helps you .... these type radio problems as you know are really hard to isolate.......
