Was hoping someone can fill me in on what the guarded backup battery switch does? Does that activate a backup battery for the main battery? If so, where's that battery located? Or does it just activate the lithium backup batteries attached to each glass screen? I assumed those lithium batteries for the screens activated automatically in the event of a main power failure so I'm not understanding what the guarded backup battery switch does.

I’m assuming you’ve got a 912 iS, that emergency backup switch allows the main battery to run the engine for about 30 minutes if you were to have both (Lane A/B) generators fail internally within the engine.

Now that makes sense! Thank you, jetcat3! What are the chances though that both lanes would fail in-flight? I would think that would be almost unimaginable odds, especially if they both checked out during the run-up prior to that flight. But if Tecnam includes this switch, it's got to be for a reason. So if both lanes fail in-flight and engine dies, then activate the emergency backup switch? Do you know anywhere I can read more about this and the proper procedure for using this emergency backup switch? I don't even see mention of it in my POH, which I find odd.

Of course! Yes, highly unlikely both would fail. Here’s a little more information which I thought did a good job of explaining it. youtu.be/OETZAeIGSMg
