On the GMC 305 control panel, does the APR button serve a purpose? We tried to use it this morning, with no luck.

Apparently, the APR (Approach) button is used to intercept the glide slope after dropping out of the clouds. We were above the GS when we tried to activate it. Not 100% sure on this, but we'll test the theory during our next flight.

I just continue to be amazed by the Garmin G3X. Keep posting everything you learn, so we don't have to relearn it.

It will only pick up he glide slope and couple the AP to it if you have the 255 nav/comm. if you only have the comm unit it will not function. Or so I'm told. The ILS broadcasts in the NAV frequencies.

Understood, but we were not on an ILS approach... am I misunderstanding something? We were on the RNAV (GPS) Y Rwy 21L Approach

I could be wrong but I think you need the NAV to pick up the glide slope. Or at least to couple to it.

Another AP question. How does the VNV button work? I set up a vertical navigation profile (1,000' above the waypoint at 3 miles out) and tried to activate the approach using VNV. Nothing happened. Am I missing something?

Am I missing something? Tecnam provided the following response to my question this afternoon: "Vertical Nav will allow you to follow vertical navigation computed by the GPS. You can set in your settings to have vertical navigation to have you arrive at so many miles from an airport at a certain altitude AGL or MSL and set a decent rate you like. When approaching the calculated location for a decent to begin to match this profile a strip with VNV will appear just to the left of your altitude tape. If you engage VNV mode on autopilot it will follow that profile." I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
