About to take possession of a new fuel injected p2008. Some question regarding which tank the excess fuel returns to. Anyone have a 912IS and know where the return fuel is routed? Preliminary thought is the left tank… Tim

I think it's in the Installation Manual. I'd have to take a look. I was at Tecnam (Sebring) today and Josh told me that someone had taken delivery of a P2008 912iS. Congrats! I purchased mine in 2016. There are only a few of us here in the US. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I've got 1,400 hours on my iS and I'm a Rotax iRMT.

Yes, that was me. A delivery pilot was bringing the plane up to Nashville where I’ll take delivery this weekend. Apparently there was some concern about enroute fuel venting out the left wing, but we’re wondering if that was representative of excess fuel return to an already full left tank. Thus the question- which wing(s) does the return fuel go to in a fuel injected engine?
Where is your home base? Hope to meet you sometime.

I can’t speak for the IS engine. But on the turbo 914 engine, the fuel returns to whatever tank you have selected on the Adair fuel valve.

The line maintenance manual illustration shows the return is to the left tank. I can also attest that if you top off the fuel to the filler rim and then don't apply enough right rudder on take off, you get an impressive flow overboard from the left wing tip located vent. It takes a healthy application of right leg to keep the ball centered on initial climb.

Fuel venting is normal when topped off, especially in the summertime. Keep an eye on the vent lines within the wing. They get brittle and break. Search the Forum, I posted my fix there.
PS - I'm based at FFC. Just south of Atlanta.

From 912is FM ed2 rev0 page22 The return line comes from the right side of the engine directly into the fuel selector, which deviates the flow into the selected tank.
