Roger how did you find your cracked pipe? During my annual at Lockwood, which was happening while I was at Sun-N-Fun. They sent me photos and I immediately showed them to Giovanni Pascale, who was there for the event. Of course he had to say he would warranty the problem. That helped. The work was done by Lockwood, who will not return the airplane to you until you pay the bill in full. That is understandable, as they are not Tecnam. Then try and get reimbursed by Tecnam. The best I could get from them was a "credit", which is better than nothing of course. The a month later, the new exhaust pipe cracked and I had to go through the same process again. As I said before, this time it seems to be holding. I am crossing my fingers.

In my case, the pipe does not appear cracked - it looks like there may be a bad weld instead at one spot up in the system (still on the Tecnam side). Wayne, Josh and Tecnam are still discussing... hopefully will get some feedback today.

Slowwwwww process. Oshkosh slowed me down a lot. Tecnam's and Rotax's attention was diverted all last week. Tecnam asked for full-length pics of the exhaust stack; I haven't heard back on that yet but pinged them last night. I expect warranty coverage and have ordered a replacement oil return hard line - that was only $76. Wayne also needs a particular nut or fastener that he has to get from Lockwood for the stack - not sure where that is. Once we get this stuff, it will take less than a day to get 837TA back up and running.
When he re-torqued the bolts he found that the upper bolt on each cylinder was looser than normal so we are hopeful that the re-torque will fix the job but of course he can't run it up until we get the exhaust pipe.
Fortunately I am on the east coast all week so can't fly it anyway right now ... learning the hard part about aircraft ownership at the moment!
Cheers

Got 837TA back in the hangar last night after over 3 weeks messing around with parts and warranties. Will be replacing one more part - hard oil line - at next service. Tecnam covered that under warranty. Sorting out the exhaust stack with Rotax now but at least she is not fly-able. Traveling for business now so will be a few more days until I can fly but it's sure a relief ... Any my IRMT was super reasonable on cost - only $700 in total labor (including oil change/filter and 59-hour inspection) on top of the exhaust issue.

I also heard something small rolling around in the elevator ... curious to see what that is too! Cheers Maybe I missed the follow up post - - what were the findings on this?

My mechanic thinks it's just a loose nut or two in there ... He can't actually look inside unless he removes the elevator, which is a pretty involved process. He checked all the bolts and cables though and everything looks fine so he doesn't see any risk ... Perhaps at the annual we can take another look. On the plus side, it doesn't seem to be using oil right now so overall, things are good. Now if I could just get from my hangar to the runway, all would be well!

I've scheduled my 50 hour oil change/inspection for this Friday. Should be uneventful, but I'll report back.

Are you going to North Carolina?

Are you going to North Carolina? Yes, flying it to SouthTecAviation. They are based at KRUQ. It's less than a 2-hour flight for me.
SouthTecAviation is an authorized service center for Tecnam.

Just got back from Charlotte. 50 hour inspection was uneventful. (I would recommend asking for Rotax parts when you schedule your appointment)
