My engine service information requires a 50-hour inspection; the 25 was completed but not the 50. The logbook says that should occur at 71.6 hours for some reason - perhaps that means 50 hours after the 25 hour inspection? Anyway, we ticked over the time on the way back from Sebring. I have reached out to my IRMT (at my field) to schedule something, and am just going to be doing touch & goes and local flying until I can get in to see him ... Could be the same for the 912iS or 912ULS, I'm not sure (in terms of the 50-hour service interval...)
Can anyone tell me what's covered in the 50 hour inspection? Rough cost estimate?
Looks like after that, it's just annuals for a bit ...
Thanks! Joel

I know the rough cost. Take what you think it should be and multiply by 5.

Download the Maintenance Manual from rotax-owner.com. It covers the scheduling and details of all required inspections.

I can't speak to the 914, but the 25 hour on my iS was $500.

As for the 50 hr inspections, I would not be too concerned. The 50 hr inspection is a Recommend inspection, the inspection is a general visual inspection for damage or abnormalalites. The biggest issue is if you use more than 30% 100 Low Lead. If you do you need to change your oil. Check your Maintenance Manual section 05-20-00 Page 3 and section 05-20-00 Page 13 for more details. I am a Rotax service and maintenance Tech.If you have any questions let me know.
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks - that is the section I was looking at. Oil change is recommended and I am going to go ahead and do it, so that I can calibrate the change intervals myself. I'm not quite sure when Tecnam last changed it....
And great to have a Rotax tech in the group and on the forum!!!
Cheers

Cheers There should be an entry documenting your last oil change in your Motor Logbook. This is required by Rotax. PS - I am also a Rotax iRMT.

I will check; I talked to my guy this morning and will get it all handled in the next 2 weeks. I heard something rattling around in my elevator during pre-flight yesterday when checking it; sounds like a nut or washer (on the right side). He will check that too - the cables/connections and rivets all seem fine however.

I just scheduled my 50 hour inspection. I'll be in Sebring on 7/24 - 7/25. If anyone else is going to be there, let's get together for lunch or dinner. I will be there on the 7/25 at Lockwood. Will Lockwood or Tecnam doing your 50 hrs inspection?

There is some fine print on the recommended 50 hour inspection. It's only recommended if you're running 100LL. It's basically a visual inspection of the engine components and an oil change. (Appointment cancelled)

That's another reason to run Mogas. Fewer inspections, and less $$$ spent.

What do y'all think of having a normal A&P do the oil change on the Rotax 914 if they are provided all of the maitenance manuals? They worked on it a week ago and did a great job. Is this something that we should only have s certified Rotax mechanic complete?
