Had you noticed any irregularities while flying?

Do you have any theories why this bracket failed? Was there deformation anyplace along the linkage from the stick to the stabilator?

Looks like we all better take a look down there. Because of its location it would be easy to miss. Congratulations to your mechanic for being so thorough. Ed

Wow that sure seems like an odd item to break. Be interesting to see what caused this to fail. Jim maybe you should stop doing aerobatics with the plane. No, but seriously, I'm with Ed. Good on whoever did the annual. A few beers for that person are in order. What did Tecnam have to say about it?

Had you noticed any irregularities while flying? I'm not 100% sure. Now that I think back, there was a time on climbout, not too long ago, where it felt squirrley and very different. I chalked it up as prop wash from the plane in front of me. I did fly it to my annual with no issues, but it was a calm day. Who knows what would have happened if the right side bracket broke too.

What did Tecnam have to say about it? No comments yet. I plan to send them the broken part and ask them for an opinion. A friend of mine suggested reporting it to my local FSDO.

A friend of mine suggested reporting it to my local FSDO. Please report it. sdrs.faa.gov/Default.aspxWithout question, anything associated with flight controls is important.

Maybe an independent metallurgist first.

If that were mine, I'd clean up the other bracket and inspect it really good for worn holes, cracks, etc. it basically been holding things for both brackets.

I feel like it’s be smarter to just replace both in case there was just a bad batch. Assuming those are just stamped? I guess it’s always possible there was some flub in the sheet. Considering how cheap it is, get 2x. I have my annual coming up in May and will be sure to check it over carefully.

I inspected mine and it looked fine. Maybe something heavy behind the seats put stress on it ?? I cant see how it broke but its hard to see it without a mirror and flashlight.
