Here’s an update on new P2008 windshields. Lexan windshields are out. The last talks I had with them it was decided the minimum thickness they could make was 1/4” which is too heavy and would be impossible to fair into windshield recess. I’m now working with the company that makes all the Van’s RV windshields and canopy’s At this time we’re waiting for quotes from three different mold makers. Their windshields will be 5/32s thick which is two and a half times as thick as we have now. They will have a smoke tint and UV protection. Windshield cost will be approximately $1,500. Their a small company and have been very supportive of my project. I’ll report back when I have more news. Ed Hi Ed Until an owner goes through the insanity associated with a cracked windshield, they cannot appreciate enough what you are doing for our small community of owners. I want to support you in your endeavors to create a better windshield for our aircraft. Please let me know how I can assist you. Thank you! Eric

Thanks I have to say I really didn’t think too much about cracked windshields until it happened to me. I had no idea how thin they were. Ed

Made a windshield mold today. It looks like we can make Lexan windshields after all. I’ll keep you informed. Ed Attachments:

Hey Ed, Nice work ! Question about lexan project what method are you guys going to use for forming ? also I bet you need some significant overlap on edges to avoid distortion. My mold is almost done (I have some 5 cm (1.9685 inch overlap around an edges) just need to polish it. I'm going to try drape forming (currently will try with plexiglass even if it is truly fragile thing). Will post you updated in case it might be useful.

It looks like you’re making a male mold. Mine is female. I should have a windshield sometime next week. I removed the old windshield today. It’s a tough job removing all the old plastic and sealant. keep us informed on your progress. Ed

Unfortunately no. The new Lexan windshield has a few waves in it when looking straight ahead. Not enough to make me pull it out but, not perfect. I’ve been trying to get the fellow who made it to come and looke at it but, he’s very busy and hasn’t seen it yet. The windshield I want to sell is from Tecnam. I love the new windshield even though it’s not perfect. It’s been a long battle to get this far. Ed

Ed Ok Thanks Ed, I really like the look and tint of the polycarbonate windshields 😊 I know it would be another nightmare to replace it again to get a straight optically perfect tinted polycarbonate installed. I would like to have one of the new Polycarbonate windshields….. Ray & Lucy 😊😊😊😊😊🇺🇸⚡️ LSRM
