Buzz, that's a very good question. And the next question will be - if the resulting lighter weight fuselage is adequate for something that ends up 30lb heavier, then why not use it for all fuselages?! Yes good point. Wonder how closely they can determine finished weight of the fuselage shell during construction?

P2008 windshield I cracked my windshield in January when the plane was out in 7 degree weather. When I went to start the engine I heard a bang. It’s about 3” at the base. I did a stop drill and and repair as per the 4313 manual. I’ve found a company in Indiana who makes Polycarbonate (Lexan) ) windshields for race cars and heavy equipment. They have a patented coating that will not scratch and an anti fog coating for the inside. They quoted me 6K to 10K to make the tooling. They would also require a new windshield to copy which is about $1400 plus shipping. The finished windshields would cost approximately $450.00 each. They would keep the tooling and we would have sole sales rights. I’ve seen their windshields and they are perfect optically. A goose would bounce off Lexan at 150mph! It’s practically unbreakable Their web site is. www.racingshields.com If I’m going to replace my windshield I want one that will never break again. If any of you are interested let me know. Thanks Ed

I’m not really interested in selling windshields. What I want is partners to share in the tooling costs Ed

Great idea! And I like the price once the initial production costs are paid…… Ray & Lucy ✈️✅👍🏻😊🇺🇸

Does anyone have a picture or drawing of the bracket? Where is it located? Ed

I’d like to see that as well. Is this something all of us should be doing as a preventative measure?

Can anyone tell me how much trimming is involved in fitting a new windshield in a P2008? I’m having tooling made for a Polycarbonate windshield. They will be using a new Tecnam windshield as a model to copy. They prefer the new windshield not be trimmed as they seal the edges to prevent moisture from getting under their protective coat. They also recommended making it 3/16s instead of 1/8th . Once the mold is made they can make either thickness. Thanks Ed

I am interested in the custom / reinforced windshield. My P2008 is on its second windshield and it has cracked again while sitting on the ground. My plane had the stiffener installed then the new windshield was installed, so it is not the solution to the problem.

I’m having a new P2008 windshield delivered this week to the manufacturer to use as a model to make the tooling. The Lexan windshields should be available in approximately eight weeks. They will cost me $750.00 and I will have to mark them up to try to cover my almost 12K investment. I will definitely ask less than the $1390.00 Tecnam charges. Ed

Ed Hi Ed, When i installed my windshield, ( please see the pictures i posted when i made this thread ) it took quite a bit of trimming to get a perfect-gap between windshield and the airframe, it was a very tedious task. I had to install it strap it down to get it to follow the contour of the fuselage took me about two 8 hour days………. Do you know what type sealant you plan to use? The sealant that Tecnam used has a very short shelf life. From the time i opened what looks just like a tube of caulking cure time was only about 30mins just barely enough time to get into the right spot and lined up straight. You did the pilots side window on your airplane so you have some experience working with this sealant……Let me know if you need any assistance would be happy to share my two cents with you. Just completed Rainbow Aviations LSRM 120 hour repair course a lot of information in three weeks….. Ray & Lucy ✈️👍🏻😊😊✅

Thanks Cole I’m looking into an alternative sealant. I also found the 3M product difficult to use. I’ll be in touch when I get the new windshield. Ed
