At my most recent oil change, I was asked if I wanted an oil analysis. I went ahead and requested one. I'll post the results when they come in. (PS - I'm at 75 hrs on a 912iS)
It's worth noting that when they cut open the filter and examined the filter element there were no anomalies. I'll probably get an analysis every 100 hrs.

My 100 hour oil analysis report just came in. Everything looks good - no anomalies.

The report is an interesting read. They test for everything A-Z. (Aluminum - Zinc) The test will detect wear on the gearbox and other engine components. In addition to viscosity tests at various temps, they also test for the presence of fuel, water, insolubles, etc.
The test costs $28 and is conducted here: Blackstone Laboratories

I clicked your link and it asked me if I wanted a free kit sent to my home. I signed up. They just charge $28 when you send in the sample. No charge for the kit itself. Thanks for the info Flocker.

Awesome info! Will be sending in my sample...... you guys are the best!πΊπΈππ»πβοΈπΎβ½οΈοΈ Just got my sample results back very encouraging ! Everything was in limits basically an nothing was there that shouldn't be ...... I have been using pure 100octane racing fuel I would contribute that to the running condition of the engine...... very happy will be doing one every 50 hours !

I have been sampling my 912ULS since the 200h service, initially every 25h and now at 50 and oil change (13 samples so far). The results have somewhat limited value if you are running leaded fuel at any time (the lead from the fuel is hundreds of times higher than the levels a bearing failure would create). The other bearing trace elements are in smaller quantities and don't show up as clear as Pb (tin, aluminium, copper).
The one useful result I did get was the fuel dilution. I had cool oil temps (80-90deg C max) and have now covered up the oil cooler to get the temp to the upper end of the green in prolonged climb and it stays at the lower end of the green arc in cruise. Oil cooler cover strip size varies a bit from summer to winter.
For oil sample results to be meaningful, you also need to sample at regular intervals and look at trends. This makes it an expensive tool. At work, we are using approx 6,000-8,000 samples every year to monitor a fleet of mining equipment. The value we get is from avoided (or arrested) failures and identifying operational or maintenance issues.
