SouthTec is going to do the repair and they're subcontracting out the paint job. Not sure who that is yet.

From the looks of their website, they appear to know what they are doing.

I wonder if they can get PAINT for Tecnam aircraft paint codes. Sebring cannot supply paint. I think it is pitiful that Tecnam sells us $200k aircraft and will not supply a quart of touchup paint. They say just take it to a automotive paint shop and have them do a color match. I have done that twice and CANNOT get a good enough match to blend in a paint spot. It is always a little off. I take in the nose wheel cover so they have a big target for their fancy machines to determine the color. This cost about $60 every time I try this. There are no refunds on custom paint when it does not match. Of course they always warn you they do not guarantee a match and there are no refunds.

Geo,
Sorry this has not worked well for you. I have had good luck doing it this way. What color are you trying to match? Metallic paint is basically impossible to match with a touch up brush.

Quick update - epoxy repairs have been completed and cured. She's headed over to the paint shop today. Hope to be back in the air by Christmas!

Geo, Sorry this has not worked well for you. I have had good luck doing it this way. What color are you trying to match? Metallic paint is basically impossible to match with a touch up brush. They tell me the color is "Champange Metallic, MM.138.45". If course that code is meaningless. I have checked everywhere and no one has heard of that code. They also tell me it is a Fiat color. Of course I checked with Fiat and no such color exists (the name or code) They tell me the paint codes are under the front seat. They are not. Why will Tecnam not provide us with touchup paint? This is crazy. The excuse is always they cannot do that because it is considered a hazard chemical, but that is BS because any paint store online will ship you paint. ALSO, any automotive paint store will put any acrylic automotive paint into a pressurized paint can for $10. No one needs to paint anything on with a brush. When you spray on the original paint it will match and blend. When you but a house, the builder leaves you a quart of all paint colors in the house When you but a car, you can go to the parts counter and purchase a quart to paint to match your color When you buy an expensive Tecnam, you cannot get paint. That is so inconsiderate. We are more than willing to pay for it. Do they really think no one will ever have to touch up anything on their airplane? I understand if you happen to get a universal color it may be more easy to computer-match, but may colors cannot be computer-matched. You need a quart of the original. I am getting pretty frustrated as I have been trying to get my Champange Metallic paint for 2 years.

Geo,
I expect if Tecnam shipped the paint it would still not be a perfect match. That is not a good reason as to why they have not tried though.
Are you trying to touch up some chips or?
I have a quality body shop I work with and will ask them on Monday the best way to accommodate this situation.
