My spinner backing plate officially cracked while in flight yesterday. A noticeable vibration occurred when above 100 kts. As it turns out, the spinner cone was vibrating against the propeller blades. There was over 1/8" of flex on the spinner cone. I removed the cone and test flew it this morning - no vibration. Will install a new back plate sometime next week. Still hoping it's a warranty item...

When I replaced the backing plate on my aircraft last year it was a warranty item. You have to fit it to your spinner (drill holes, install rivnuts and paint). I got lucky with this, Aaron found me a spinner assy that was ready to install. The cost was 2X the amount of the spinner but I was given credit for the backing plate. Since it was ready to install there was less chance that I would screw it up.

You have to fit it to your spinner (drill holes, install rivnuts and paint). We had to do all of this with mine. Flew home yesterday - no issues with the spinner. Still waiting to hear back from Italy on the warranty question...

In for my annual: sn 101, 172 engine hours. Major cracks in backing plate. It is covered under warranty—the ‘improved’ plate is due in tomorrow from Sebring. We did not think this was an issue with my s/n and visual inspection of the assembled system revealed nothing. The mx tech, noting that the sb was not annotated in the logbook did the disassembly and saw major fractures. Lesson learned: verify, don’t presume. And this is why we do Annuals. Attachments:

At this point you would think that they would just send us all new backing plates regardless.

Ensure your mx tech is very specific with Sebring on parts and timing—and stays on them until it’s shipped.
I’m not impressed with Sebring’s sense of urgency or competency. I’ve read and heard many anecdotes of their inefficiency. I viewed it skeptically —“they can’t be THAT bad at getting parts out the door correctly and in a timely manner, can they?” Well, I’ve learned on my own first experience that ‘yes they can.’
Parts ordered the Tuesday before Thanksgiving—which were in stock—were finally shipped the cheapest way possible yesterday which means it will be delivered next week. I don’t think Cirrus runs their warranty program this lackadaisically. But I could be wrong.

My expectations of service from any company during the week of Thanksgiving in the US is pretty low. At least they had it in stock. Waiting on parts from Italy is like watching paint dry. (I've been there...literally ) Hope you're back in the air soon!

Had my spinner plate replaced last week. Caught it early, the cracks are parallel to the outer ring of the spinner plate, and then radiate out. Here are a few photos. P2008, #120. 135 hours.

For all those who have had their spinner plates replaced, can you recommend any shop to send the plate rivnuts and cone to? I'm having trouble finding an A&P who will drill holes for the new installation.

My A&P handled it all three years ago and I have no idea where he sourced any of the repair items.
