My buddy had been aching to fly my Tecnam. We had been down at Nichols field and on the way back north we left and headed west past Brown field then to the southern end of San Diego Bay. We got permission to fly down the center of the bay from NAS Coronado. The Coronado bay bridge at 500 feet off the water. I so wanted to land on the carrier off the left wing tip.

For clarity, my buddy was behind me flying my Bravo, I am flying his Sport Cruiser.

That carrier is a tempting runway. But something tells me that's frowned upon!

I lived on Coronado for 5 years (still go there regularly to see one of my daughters) ... always wondered how you got cleared to fly down the bay! I generally stay at the Marriott right there on the bay and watch the airplanes all the time. Great views and fun trip! And you could have nailed that landing ... the price would have been your license but hey, some things might be worth it!!
Cheers

To get the clearance, depending on where you are coming from, if you are coming south along the coast you call Lindbergh field when you get to scripts pier. Ask for clearance along the coast at or below 500 feet. Once cleared they will send you south along past Pacific Beach, then along Mission bay, along Mission beach and release you when you get to Ocean Beach Pier. From here you call up NAS Coronado. I have never been denied during the weekend. Delayed sometimes by Lindbergh but how can you complain about flying along the coastal shore line. :-). If you are coming from the south east, you clear with NAS Coronado then ask Lindbergh once you round the point at Pt Loma.
Maybe next time when you are out we can arrange to fly together!
