Hollie and I made the trip back from Minnesota with multiple weather delays. The plane was awesome with the exception of the left Garmin 3X screen "spontaneously rebooting" in mid flight and us losing gps, adahrs, and adsb in. So that made for some exciting moments. 3 out of 4 times it was able to regain gps. So now I'm working with Garmin to gather some information so they can determine what is happening. Flying is always an adventure. David.

Quick question Dave. Was the MFD providing everything you needed when the PFD went down?
EDIT: Whoops. Just saw the MFD in your pics. So you had no gps at those times?

Yeah...that head wind was awesome - I saw kids on their bicycles passing us below.
The one time that the gps did not recover...we had no gps. However, foreflight on our mobile phones got us to where we needed to be.

Flying is always an adventure. David. Hi David, Geez, after buying a new plane, you sure shouldn't have to resort to your phone GPS. But thank goodness you had it otherwise you might have had to pull out the old paper sectional chart and navigate 1960's style!! LOL As you said, "flying is an adventure" and that's why we all love it. Right? Anyway, glad you and Hollie and your Tecnam are safe in Texas. Do you know if any avionics work has been performed on your plane since it was delivered? My amateur (and rather obvious) guess is either a Garmin box has failed or something is wrong with the wiring harness that ties everything together. Please keep us informed on your progress diagnosing and correcting the problems. Glenn

Hi Glenn,
Keep in mind that this is a 2014. There was nothing in the logs indicating any avionics issues. Garmin has been very helpful so far. I am scheduling an appt with Select Avionics in Mckinney to troubleshoot and add adsb out. I will keep you updated on what we find. Im going out tonight to see if i can download the logs and determine software levels.

Unless I missed it somehow I noticed that your comm freqs/controls are not displayed on your PFD. Is that by design? I thought they always integrated the Garmin radios into the G3X. Not sure why they wouldn't.

Hi Tony...I would prefer that. Drew (on this forum) is going to give us some "ground school" and help us get everything setup. Hollie also needs to be signed off on the P2008 by a CFI for Insurance, so he will do that also. He as been a great asset to have local since he has many hours in a P2008 since his dad owns one.

Also....I find it very interesting that I received a PM from the owner of plane number #085 that had the same reboot issues and mine is #086. He said the Garmin Support solved it for him and he is trying to remember details since it was 3 years ago.

David,
Sure, I'm aware it's a 2014 model and failures can happen to the best equipment. Vibration can loosen connections or a little moisture here and there will cause all sorts or gremlins. But Garmin has had a few years to address any reliability issues. I don't know how long the G3X has been in production but I know it's been at least 8 years. (I've flown a 2010 Tecnam that was delivered with a G3X system.) All the Garmin radios in my Bonanza have been extremely reliable and even though the G3X is not TSO'd, shouldn't we expect the same reliability?
Just my opinion, BWTHDIK.

While they're in there get them to add the ability to control the audio panel too. Might as well get your money's worth. Keep us posted on what you find out. It's a great looking plane!

Adam at Midwest Sky Sports is also someone you might reach out to: not sure what he’d charge but he knows Garmin pretty well. 810- 3563447
