Anyone have an example of a ADSB Out 20A LOA request?

Going to an avionics shop tomorrow to confirm what I have and what I need.  Tecnam send me the following guidance:


For the ADS-B, that will require an LOA for the installation of those components and it will be $150.00. The best thing to do is to contact your preferred Avionics Shop, let them know what equipment you currently have installed and that you are needing ADS-B. They will be able to best advise you on what equipment you will need and what will be compatible with your current equipment. Once you determine what equipment you want/need please have the shop fill out the LOA form with as much detail as possible. Please have them include any wiring diagrams and or have them draw up a wiring diagram showing how they will integrate the new components with the existing components. If you are required to install any additional antennas on the airframe or if you are required to cut the dash to install any new components. Please take a picture with some type of illustration (tape or microsoft paint edited) showing the proposed location. I want to get technical supports ok for the location prior to you cutting on the aircraft. Once we have there ok on that, you avionics shop can proceed with the installation. Once they have all the components installed, I will need them to send me the type of ADS-B test equipment they are using and a picture showing a successful test of the system. Once I have all that information I will be able to forward that to technical support for there approval. To date as long as we follow all those steps, I have not seen them deny a request yet for ADS-B.

ADSB In GDL 39

Trans GTX 23 ES

Antenna GA 35


From what I read, I think I only need the GPS 20A module.

You should have an equipment list for the your plane along with the logs and POH. Take a look and see if the GPS 20A isn't already installed. It would be unusual to have all the equipage you have and not have the position source for compliant ADS B out. In my case I just had to go into the G3X touch setup screens and turn on the ADS-B features on the Transponder page. The plane was ready to go and the feature just needed to be turned on. The G3X setup screen will also show you what equipment is installed. If for some reason you don't have the GPS 20A installed I don't see why a LOA is necessary since it is depicted in the parts manual. Tecnam should give you the OK provided you follow the Garmin wiring instructions and they should provide the Avionics shop with approval. This is what I was told by Tecnam when I asked about installing a GDL 39R. Be careful changing things in setup, record your initial settings so you can go back and make only one or two changes at a time after reading the G3X install manual section.

Just picked up my plane from Pahan after having the 20a installed. I can confirm that an LOA is not required since it is a factory option now. Got that info from both Pahan and Shannon.

That makes complete sense.  Thanks, an LOA for something the fatory offers was confusing to me and a few others I bet.

Pahan runs Avionics Installations in Spruce Creek. He works on a lot of P2008s and other Tecnams.

Shannon Yeager is with Tecnam in their Sebring location.

Both great guys and very helpful.

Pahan is the acknowledged Garmin expert, especially the G3X Touch.  He installs the final avionics in the Tecnams when they arrive in the U.S. 
FYI:  When I was in the Garmin tent last year at Oshkosh, I asked the reps a few questions and most of their answers were something like "I don't really know, I'll have to ask Pahan about that."

Shannon Yeager is the Vice-President of U.S. Sales (or something like that) for Tecnam in Sebring where all Tecnams go through re-assembly before they are sold.

Now that you own a Tecnam, you'll soon learn all the names.

This ADSB information is giving me a headache...

I just got this response from one of my old inquiries:


Italy responded this morning and informed that LOA's are still required. I gave them the equipment currently installed in your aircraft and I ask them what will be required to get you ADS-B In and Out compliant. Below is their response. They also want to know if that aircraft is equipped with a dedicated XM Satellite antenna?

ITEM to add to the A/C current configuration:

#1 GTX45R - Transponder with capability of ADS-B IN/OUT
#2 GPS 20-A GPS Receiver

ITEM to delete from the current configuration:
#1 GTX 23 ES - Transponder
#2 GDL 39 - ADS B IN


Now why do I need a GTX 45R when I have a GTX 23ES? From what I understand the 23 ES works with the GPS 20A. Any body have Shannon's contact info? I dont want to spend money on equipment that I dont think I need.

Sometimes I blame it on language translation and other times on sheer stuborness?

Talked to Shannon and things make a little more sense. I still need an LOA - Tonys deal was different because the plane was already documented to have the equipment and they didnt put it in. However, I can still use my GTX 23.
