My trim servo recently failed. Apparently the way it is mounted with the drive arm up, water can get into the housing. The best answer I can come up with is to create a little dam with latex caulk. I won't stop it but it should mitigate it some. Wondering if anyone has had problems and what they did to solve it, if anything. Someone suggested drilling a hole in the case but I don't think that is a great idea since the water still gets to the components inside the case. Attachments:Trim servo mounting.odt (62.72 KB)

Hank, Check with Garmin warranty. I recently had a servo failure in my 2017 P2008. Garmin replaced both servos under warranty. As I recall Garmin said the problem was with oil used in the servos.

Nothing like a quick reply, sorry. I replaced the servo and so far works just fine. I am thinking there is a new servo motor that would be better so next time I will do a little more research. The new servo is identical to the one replaced so I am thinking it will eventually fail.

I recently read some posts somewhere about the trim servos made by RC Allen having to be replaced. Is this the same topic?

Drilling a small.hole.in the bottom.of the case allows the water to drain out. This stops the water pooling in the case and corroding the mechanism.
Since making drilling a hole on two aircraft it has resolved the problem.

I was hesitant to drill a hole in the case, not really sure why but that would be a solution to a poor design, I think Chris is right and there is a new and improved servo motor. The original one was fine but it is mounted with the drive rod up which allows water to enter. I think I read somewhere the now recommended one is sealed.

OK, so here I go again. Elevator trim failure. The servo was filled with water and rusty. As you can see from my last post I replaced the trim motor less than a year ago. I have now purchased a new one from Aircraft Spruce and will probably drill a hole in the bottom to keep the water drained. The design is very poor and I'm disappointed in Tecnam for this one. I'm thinking there may be a better replacement servo than the T2-10A that cost me another $167. If anyone knows of a better replacement please let me know. Whether I drill a drain in the servo or not, eventually it will fail again. There is no good way to keep water from entering in it since the shaft is mounted upward and if flying in rain the servo is going to get a deluge.

Not sure what model Tecnam you fellows have but, my 2014 P2008 ser #085 has a Ray Allen B6-11C trim motor which is water proof. You can look it up on their site. It appears to be the same size. I have all kinds of autopilot trim problems and did replace the trim motor. I took the old one apart and found no signs of water ever being in it. It had over 550hours on it. I’m still working with Garmin on the trim problem but, I’m sure the trim motor is not the problem it’s the power coming from the autopilot that’s causing my problem. Ed
