Who has had an elevator trim motor failure and what were the symptoms leading up to the failure on a P2008? Thanks Ed

My plane will occasionally get a “trim necessary” message when flying with the autopilot is on. I’m able to trim with the buttons when I get this message. A friend with a P2008 will completely loose the ability to trim when flying but it seems to work on the ground. We think the trim motors are getting week. We wanted to see I’d anyone else has had this problem. Ed

Where do you see the "trim necessary" message?

I know it may sound crazy, but you should verify trim motor control is enabled for the autopilot. I've seen some disabled. The G3X Autopilot Tuning Guide says:Initial autopilot tuning is done with the trim control disabled to avoid the auto-trim function from interfering with the initial autopilot tuning. Disable Trim Motor Control 1) In configuration mode go to the Autopilot page 2) Disable “Trim Motor Control” for all servos There's a chance it was not enabled after it was adjusted by an avionics tech. I've seen that happen. G3X_AP_Tuning_Guide.pdf (139.61 KB)

Auto trim is enabled. Big yellow letters in the middle of the display. It’s only happened to me about four times in the last year. I have a new trim actuator coming and will post the results. Ed

I’ve had the pitch servo on my autopilot go bad but not the trim motor. Interested to hear the follow up.

I received the new one today. The instructions say not to let it get wet. It’s sitting in the tail cone. There’s no way to keep it dry back there. Keeping it wet with LPS could help some. Ed

I replaced the trim motor yesterday. I opened up the old motor and there was no sign of moisture getting in. It’s possible this isn’t my problem. It’s possible it’s in the settings. Ed

What was the symptom of the autopilot pitch motor failure? Did it just stop working or was it intermittent and was there a message on your display? Thanks Ed
