The ILS/VOR/glideslope antenna (on the aircraft that have it) is the forward sweep V of wire near the tip of the vertical stabilizer. I'm thinking about removing mine. I don't have an IFR rating, and I'm currently flying as a Sport Pilot. Also, in nearly 40 years of flying, I have literally never shot a glideslope based approach. I did use VORs the first 10 years or so... literally haven't tuned one since GPS nav became available.
Thoughts?
I'm removing it for aesthetic reasons, and the 1/10 of a knot it will gain at cruise. (Actually, it might be more than that. It is truly amazing how much drag a round wire generates.)

If you have a working Nav/Com why give up the VOR? I agree you probably will never use it but I'd keep it as a backup until the VOR system is fully retired.

I appreciate your reply, and have had that same thought... Nonetheless: In nearly 40 years of flying, I have literally never shot a glideslope based approach. I did use VORs the first 10 years or so... literally haven't tuned one since GPS nav became available. In fact, as a further note along those lines, it is true that my other airplane, that I've owned for about five years, that airplane does not have, and has never had, a VOR receiver. So, I literally haven't had access to VOR for years and years. Again, thanks for the comment! Perspective is always welcome.

If you are planning to add ADS-B in to your Astore and do not have, nor plan to have, a VOR; I found that Tecnam pre-wired the antenna cable from the tail to the panel for possible VOR use. This cuts a good number of hours off of a receiver install since no one has to route new RG cable from the tailcone to the panel. The cable will be found behind the tail access panel and just requires the antenna connector. Drill the holes for the antenna and doubler, rivet and job done. The GDL50R completes the other end with Bluetooth and/or wired connections to the G3X. It's a one day job if your plane is like mine.

I do already have ADS/B in N837TA; at the same time, I am an LSRM and may be called upon to install in other's aircraft. So, once again, FANTASTIC info, THANKS! Danal
