Buzz, I got a job card approving 10 hours of work and instructions on how to perform the work. Tony Hey Tony I would be interested in talking about this issue on the phone sometime. Would you be up for that?

Just curious if anyone has had issues with bubbling paint? Any updates on this Buzz? It's been 2 months since I submitted my issue to Tecnam. Crickets... No updates. I have been kinda spinning my wheels a bit. I am very concerned about the prospect of drilling out rivets as Tecnam suggested. I am a little miffed that we don't have a better explanation about what is going on. I would hate to drill rivets if it is actually a paint issue. Tony seems to think its paint. My last message from Tecnam was that they are still standing by their 3 hours of repair unless I provide a better estimate from a mechanic/painter. I haven't tracked down a painter yet. Tecnam originally said they thought it was a break down of the sealant around the rivets and inspection plates and sumps. If that is the case then every rivet associated with the inspection plates and sumps, and the inspections plates themselves would have to be removed so that all the sealant could be replaced. Way more than 3 hours of work. I am very curious why the inspection plates lack the greenish/yellow paint that is on the rest of the aluminum. Not sure if that is Zinc chromate? Josh said he was going to get me a more detailed exhalation of the painting process but that didn't happen. I think I will call Mark after the holidays and pick his brain. He seems to know a little bit about the issue. Right now I am monitoring the issue by taking pictures to compare and see if its getting worse. So what have you found out?

Found out today that I have been approved for 3 hours of labor at $95/Hr. I haven't seen any of these paint problems but 3 hours labor seems woefully short!

Found out today that I have been approved for 3 hours of labor at $95/Hr. So what approach are you going to take? Are you going to drill and replace rivets and sealant then paint or are you thinking just paint? Did Tecnam give you a good explanation as to what is wrong?

I'm new to the group and wondered if there was any conclusion re: this issue. My Tecnam also has some bubbled paint at rivets near the fuel tank. Thanks very much. Colin

Hi Colin welcome to the group. I have not yet addressed my issues. This is because I am skeptical of what I was told about the problem. As far as I know nobody has definitively identified what is causing this. I am in a holding pattern right now. I have taken a lot of close up pictures so that I can compare over time to see if it is getting worse. I think my first pictures were back in Sept or Oct of 19. So far I have not seen additional spread. Tell us more about your plane the issues and add some pictures so we can see what your dealing with.

Thanks for the reply. My plane is an older Tecnam Golf (2002). It has 5 paint bubbles at rivets near the left fuel tank. One is larger than the others with a slight yellowish discoloration (see pic). Seems similar to what others have been seeing. Attachments:

Yes it looks similar. But I can say I haven't seen any discoloration like that. The color of is interesting. What fuel do you use? I take it that this is on top? Have you checked the bottom? Any idea how long it has been like this? Have you contacted Tecnam?

I use premium mogas (occasionally 100LL). The 2 spots in the pic are on top of the wing and there are 3 small bubbles on the underside. I just bought the plane so not sure how long they've been there. I did contact Tecnam but no response yet.
