Recently my 912iS developed this issue. On the first start of the day, it will start and run for 1-2 seconds then stop. (It always starts and runs on the 2nd attempt). I contacted Lockwood and they said it usually has to do with system voltage so I installed a new battery (Odyssey PC545 - what Tecnam installs). It did not solve the problem. The next time I spoke to Lockwood, I found out that I was not the only one with a P2008 experiencing this. Tecnam, in conjunction with Rotax, is suggesting a larger battery with more CCA (cold cranking amps) - the Odyssey PC625. I plan to fly down to Aircraft Spruce and pick one up on Saturday. I'll report my results here.
Anyone on here, other than sodslinger, experiencing this?

Iv'e always had that problem, not every time but fairly often. I'm careful to remember to switch on the avionics backup battery before starting or the lack of juice can cause my Garmin G3X's to reboot. It happens less since I keep the plane plugged in to the battery minder all the time, and I replace the battery every two years rather it needs it or not. Iv'e been tempted to put in a larger battery but realized I would likely need to modify the battery box first. Looking forward to seeing how it works out for you.

I have a Schauer JAC2512, but for traveling I use a inexpensive small Battery Minder and it seems to work just as well.

The 625 is taller than the 545 so I'm planning on at least modifying the strap... The CCAs are 625 vs 545 so hopefully that will solve the problem. You also get a 27 min reserve vs 18. I'll post the results tomorrow.

Installed the Odyssey PC625 yesterday. It did not solve the problem. Good thing Aircraft Spruce accepted the return. Back to the drawing board.

Tecnam asked for pics of my starter solenoid. Pics sent. We'll see where that leads us. Stay tuned.

As a follow up on this issue - someone on the Rotax Forum suggested the following modified start up procedure...
Start Power ON. Pumps ON Both. Pressure OK. Main Pump Only. Pressure OK. AUX Pump Only. Pressure OK. Pumps ON Both. Lane A Power ON. Lamp Clears. Lane B Power ON. Lamp Clears. Throttle Open Propeller "CLEAR!" START
It has worked for me on the last 6 starts. Engine starts and runs fine.

The Rotax 912is Operators Manual specifies the following start procedure:
Master ON
Fuel Pump On [ Notice: Only use one fuel pump when starting the engine. Using both fuel pumps can lead to a bad start behavior.]
Lane A & B both on.
Then start it up, followed by the normal checks.
Its covered in Section 3.4 of the Manual.
This is the only place I've seen the "one pump" at start procedure but it comes directly from BRP, so I follow it. You might give it a try. I turn on the second pump once I see that the generator/s are producing power.
.... and yes, I know the POH says both pumps on at start. So who ya gonna believe, the Italians or the Germans?
