but with MOGAS no ethanol, the change recommendation is 75 hours. What's your source on this?

but with MOGAS no ethanol, the change recommendation is 75 hours. What's your source on this? Well, that is a good question. I read that somewhere. Without rummaging through my stuff, I would guess it was a tech manual, but I know 'guessing' will not satisfy an engineer. I will rummage some this week and see if I can find the source. I know at the time is made sense. May have been on the Rotax user website. Just don't remember at the moment. PS, the problem with racing fuel is it is hard to find. It is not on every corner. But yea, it is sort of the answer is it not. Of course "Swift Fuels" would also be the answer, but it also is not on every field (actually hardly any fields).

I had some time to kill sitting in the FBO waiting on my 100 hour to be completed this morning so I looked it up.
SI-912i-001 states: If operating with leaded AVGAS fuel, we recommend a change of engine oil every 25 operating hours.
It goes on to say "When operating primarily on unleaded fuels or MOGAS, the maintenance intervals remain unchanged in regard to the published maintenance schedule found in the currently valid Maintenance Manual for the engine type."
Section 5.1 of the 912iS Maintenance Manual recommends changing the oil every 50 hours.
I checked the 914 MM as well. It's the same.

Done a little more checking on the Oil Change topic: On the Rotax-Owners forum, they are indicating 100 hours for Mogas and 50 hours for 100LL with 30% usage, and perhaps as much as 25 hours if you use 100LL all the time. There is some confusion on this as one of the Bulletins has a typo which was stating 25 hours for 100LL with 30% usage, but that has been recently corrected to read 50 hours. The bottom line here seems to be the old-timers like frequent oil changes and the younger crowd prefers extended oil changes and believe the manual (100 hours with Mogas) For example, my pappy (may he rest in peace) changed oil on his car every 3000 miles from his model-T days to the day he died. He always said oil is cheap and oil must be changed every 3000 miles. He totally ignored the fact that in 60 years oil quality increased tremendously and tolerances in engines improved so there was less wear. No reasoning with him. In the meantime I was changing my oil using synthetic oils every 25000 miles and in 30 years never had an engine problem. Even that did not sway him. I've sort of settled on 75 hours for my 912-is and will likely stick with that. I also use that new Shell oil for Rotax. I also think it is fair to say that maintenance shops will always 'recommend' more frequent changes because of liability. That way no one could ever blame them if you have any oil-related issues.
