I am a 50 year old student pilot total newby. I have run race cars all sorts of equipment. And usually pick up stuff pretty quickly. Well I think this challenge gonna be totally different than anything I have done in my entire life. 4.5 hours so far. And I have a whole new respect for pilots. I would put a photo on but can't figure out how to get url from google photos on my android tablet to add here. Or if there is easier way to post photos on here.

Itβs that third dimension that takes a while to get. I was in my thirties and had a background like yours. I had about five hours of flight training and was leaving the airport when I came to a hill and I realized I was pulling back on the steering wheel. Thatβs when I realized I would eventually get it! Welcome! I was 62 when I started training and it took some effort. My younger self could place a wheel within a quarter inch of the apex every time. My older self had to accept a little less natural ability and more reliance on training. Find a good instructor who fits how you learn. Even if you like your instructor, find an hour to go up with someone different. Every teacher has a different talent and style; you will benefit from another voice. A good instructor is like finding a good coach. Knowing your stuff is common, being able to teach it is rare. Take a couple of hours in a glider once you get the basics down. A glider will educate the seat of your pants like nothing else.
I remember having to think about forgetting I wasn't in my skid-steer with the rudder pedals at the beginning. So some of that heel and toe memory needs to be re-programed. Fly as much as you can and get the written out of the way early on. The test prep takes some effort; the written test itself is not an obstacle. Seat time, seat time, seat time; you got it!

Welcome Uncle Fish....I'm in my 60th year of flying this year....the thrill never gets old. Started at age 21, flown everything from supersonic fighters, jumbo jets, gliders and lots of GA aircraft but I've now settled into a P2008. The glider idea is a good one and after you get comfortable in your ship, my suggestion would be to get a few hours in a tail dragger. I've told everyone who would listen that I learned as much about flying in my old Piper Cub as any of the others I've flown. Good Luck !

Thanks. Headed back North tomorrow to work. Scheduled to be back here in 2 weeks. Today was a good day. We practiced slow flight and also with turns and did about 3 power of stalls. My take off are getting alot better, 2 landings today where alot better when I transition my eyes from numbers aiming point to the down runway just after we pass the aiming point. Minus out the taxi time have about 4 to 5 hours probably of true air time. Still have alot to learn. Reading the landing thread on here think has helped me. So all those tips and tricks and comments from all of you on here alot of us get good info so thanks for posting. I have gone back and read most of the threads on here and picked up so much.π

Hi All, Iβm a newbie to this forum and Tecnam aircraft in particular. Originally I thought about buying an Astore but ultimately settled on a P2008T. I spent three days flying my new to me 2013 Tecnam with the incredible help of Shannon Yeager. Coming from flying a Cirrus for 15 years but taking a 5 year break from flying, the P2008 seems pretty straightforward and stable as an aircraft. The plane will be based in Danbury CT.
