Astore versus P2008

I am looking for comments from any of you that have flown both. I have one flight in a P2008. I liked the smoothness of control, forgiving touch downs, stability and very good slow flight feel.

I am curious if any you Astore drivers could share your thoughts and make comparisons.

I do not own an Astore. I do own a P2008t. I have a few cross country hours in the Astore. I think it flies very similarly, and favorably, to the P2008.

I like the Astore. It looks good. It has a sex appeal that the P2008 is never going to have.

I considered purchasing one. But I did not and here is why.

About the Astore—compared to the P2008

It is a greenhouse.

It is not that easy to get in and out of. Few low-wings are.

Once in—it is not as roomy as the P2008 in any dimension.

It seems noisey to me. But that is why they have Bose A-20’s.

The 914 equipped P2008 has more power than you realize.

The P2008 is engineered (although not marketed as) to be a 750 kilo airplane. The Astore is barely 600 kilos in design or practical use.

But the Astore is a beautiful airplane and the most capable low wing LSA on the market.

You won’t go wrong with either. But you’ll go ‘better’, in my humble opinion, with the P2008.

I totally agree! The weight difference alone swayed me. I know its un-official, but that’s 330 pounds of weight that the P-2008 can carry. It’s a very comforting feeling if your over the 1320 a Little its not so critical as it is in the Astore! Fueling is much easier in the Astore……..But, the P-2008 wins hands down!

Prior to owning my P2008T I always owned low wing aircraft. However two important factors swayed me to purchase the high wing P2008T. First factor is ease of entry and exit of the aircraft - especially if you have to exit the aircraft quickly (bubble top vs door). Second and more importantly is having the high wing shade you from the green house effect. I generally fly in hot and sunny weather. I can’t emphasize enough how important not having the sun toast you during flight makes for an enjoyable flight experience.

In my view the Sierra is nicer to fly than the Astore.

As an ex-Astore owner I have to agree with ChiMike’s comments. The Astore was great to fly, but it would get really hot in Arizona summers, and I was always a bit concerned about passengers getting in and out without injuring either themselves or the slightly delicate sliding canopy frame, and keeping within the legal maximum weight was a challenge. If I had to choose again I’d probably go for the 2008, even though the Astore received admiring comments wherever I took it.
