Hi I’m trying to decide whether mounting an iPad Pro with ForeFlight Sentry is better suited to glare shield or window. And, recommended size for iPad. I have two ten inch pros but don’t know if that’s too large. Ram mount configuration might also be helpful. Thank you Eric

I have the pro model 12.9 I pad also, would not recommend them because of there’re size. I use the new gen 5 I pad mini I strap it to my Rt. Knee with a Velcro strap I bought on My pilot Store .com and of course your going to want a nice single piece case for the mini I pad. Do not recommend using Ram mounts on ANY windows it my cause some problems. I hope this helps you decide on what to use. I had tried them all and this is the best configuration I found. For me was the best option. The 12.9 I pad pro is just to large I flew with one for a short time just always got in the way……… I hope this helps get you get headed in the Rt. Direction …….. Hi Ray and Lucy I appreciate your feedback and suggestion! However in my case, I have older Garmin screens in my avionics panel that don’t transmit traffic or weather. I tried using the knee pad but found monitoring traffic and weather in my lap distracting and just plain dangerous. So therefore having a glare shield or window ram mount, for me at least, is preferable to a knee pad mount. If someone out there in our group has another suggestion, it would be most appreciated! Thank you Eric

I I use an iPad. Mini with RAM mount with short arm and hard mount to panel ,it just fits to left of PFD so is in perfect position and is almost all shaded by glare shield . Also have a solid mount for normal IPad beside circuit breakers, but prefer the location of the mini. I don’t like knee pads or suction cups which tend to let go in turbulence I’ll see if I can post photo

Great idea! I agree with you the Ram Suction Cup tends to loose its seal at the worst moments. But I’m going to try it anyway, a windshield mount and support the IPad Mini on the glare shield with a short arm and some padding. I’ll report back on my success. However in the future I’m probably going to use your solution. Thank you

Hi all - I am currently looking for an iPad mini mounting solution. I mostly use the iPad for planning and traffic avoidance as Garmin won’t integrate with my EFB and requires multiple subscriptions. I tried a cheap suction cup mount but it fell off turning base and gave me the fright of my life. The more expensive RAM suction mounts are supposed to be better but there is still the possibly of it falling off if mounted on a curved part of the windshield or with temperature changes. I have also tried the iPad kneeboard option but find it harder to look down unless AP is engaged. I am now going to look at the RAM perma mount fixed either above the key or on a spare space on the co-pilot side without blocking the G3X displays, switches or fuel selector. I may also use a cheap kneeboard with note paper as it the fastest way to take down important instructions in my view!

Hi Tony, This may be another option for you called the Boogie Board a cool way to NO have paper in the cockpit & be able to write does anything important. I didn’t want to take a chance on the suction cups on our thin plexiglass. I think your permanent option would be much better. I have included a couple of pictures of it been using this for 7 years 100% happy with it and they only cost around $20.00 Ray & Lucy ✅👍🏻😊🇺🇸 00

I’ve had good luck with a Foreflight Sentry device affixed to the rear passenger window - for traffic and flight planning. The Sentry is paired with a iPad Mini that’s affixed to the pilot side window with a good ram mount and a small extension. Ive only had a couple of times that the mount has come loose.
