I figure at least one of you will know the answer. I'm just trying to figure out if I can replace my ELT battery? Is this task "preventative maintenance"? I am not a repairman or A@P.

Hi Buzz,
Your logs should reflect the date in which the ELT battery should be changed. Also most ELTSβS have a date code with the expiration date on outside of it. Itβs a basic task I change mine and have my A& P sign my log book off.
The pilot/operator can replace an ELT battery under preventive maintenance, 14 CFR Part 43.
Looking forward to signing off my on logs I start SLSA school next month. Hope your longing some some good Flt hours β¦..

Thanks for the info. I thought it fit under preventative maintenance. I just couldn't find the info to confirm this. Why do you have an A&P signing if its preventative maintenance. I know it has to be documented, cant you do the signing? Where are you going to school? Can't get any flying in right now been really foggy.

Hi Buzz,
Yes, I just like to have a little extra documentation I guess its my 20 years in the Air Force and habit, and your absolutely correct you and I both can change our ELT batteries. Yes and we both can sign any basic maintenance off as Owner/Pilots as stated in 14 CFR part 43.
Heading out to Missouri / Rainbow Avation 15 day SLSA maintenance school Feb 25 - Mar 14 once completed I can do all required maintenance and work on any light Sport Airplane with the exception of any heavy maintenance such as engine overhauls.
Being out west this is our prime flying season! I hope the weather clears for you soonβ¦β¦ always good to hear from you π

Anyone know the procedure to replace the battery in the Kannad 406 af-compact. ? I I ordered the BAT 200 replacement from Spruce with comes with a lot of parts and a 340.00 price tag, but no procedure to replace. The OROLIA web site redirects and you need a log in and password ? bat200

Simple task. 4 screws and it comes apart. Replace the battery once you install the foam tape around it. new seals and the new desiccant pack. View AttachmentVery Nicely Done! Ray & Lucy β¨πΊπΈπβ

Did you have an A&P sign off on it?

Did you have an A&P sign off on it? It is the pilot in command's responsibility to know the replacement date; some owners will replace the battery early to coordinate it with the annual inspection. As mentioned, the pilot/operator can replace an ELT battery under preventive maintenance, 14 CFR Part 43. I just had my annual last week, and he had to inspect it to sign it off for annual.
