My wife and I are on tour of Italy and thanks to Mark Gregor, Tecnam USA, he arranged a tour of the plant with Stefano Mavilio, Marketing and Communications Director. All I can say is WOW. THe facility is huge 7 or 8 HUGE buildings housing all the airplanes. It’s like a flight line you start at the beginning with the components and end up with the finished aircraft. There were probably 200-300 airplanes in all stages of development. Listen to this, ALL THE PARTS ON YOUR PLANES ARE MADE IN HOUSE, except batteries, tires, berringher brakes and engines. They quality control each and every part. I was fortunate enough to meet th man who developed the Astore, Chief mechanic and engineer who works out any problems. The workmanship and skill of these technicians is easily seen in the quality of your aircraft. You should take comfort in the fact that leave nothing to chance, they are all hand built, just like a fine sports car. Look at the mass production attempts of the Vashion Ranger, when you see the complaints on the internet
By one pilot it makes you think. I was
Just in AWE of the plant so organized, so meticulously clean, and so efficient. They have doubled their workforce to over 400. Tecnam is constructing additional buildings and acquiring others. They have their own runway to test the planes. Mark Gregor has done so much for me the past 8 years. I have bought 4 Tecnams from him and Mark and Patrick are like family. Stefano emphasized that we are all part of the Tecnam family. For all of us LSA drivers, we need to be proud in the fact that we are flying a fine Italian sports car equivalent. I am fortunate in that I have a P 2008 TC and an ASTORE TC and love them both. I believe that some GA pilots look down upon Light Sport Pilot Aircraft. Put them in our planes on a gusty day and see how they do. Not well at all. Just like a tail dragged you fly them all the way to the hanger. I’ve probably said enough it’s 3 am in Rome and tgsts 9:00EST. I haven’t said much in the past few years, but now that I’m retired, hope to do more. My most heartfelt thanks to Mark Gregor and Stefano Mavilio for a wonderful morning seeing the factory.
