My autopilot is not happy trying to hold altitude. It constantly wanders up and down 30-50 feet around the set altitude. The pitch gain was set to 1.3 by the factory. I have reduced it to 1.1 but problem is only slightly improved Torque is set to 80%. What settings are you all using and does it hold altitude nice and steady.

I’ve had pitch problems for awhile. Garmin just sent me some new settings to try. Stand by and I’ll let you know how they work. My pitch problems would get divergent up to 809fpm. Ed

The new pitch trim settings didn’t work. Eleven minutes into my second flight I lost auto trim and manual trim. When I landed I turned off auto trim and got manual trim back. I’ll get my recorded data to G3X Support on Monday and go from there. Ed

Ed I got to fly yesterday with your suggested pitch settings. It held altitude very well. ,within plus or minus 20 feet for the hour or so of the flight. However as you suggested the gain at 2 is a bit aggressive for me and was a bit a like a bumpy road so I will will reduce it and retest Sounds like you have another issue with yours Look forward to hearing Garmin comments

Ed-
My autopilot is not trimming automatically. I receive "trim up" and "trim down" notices. How do I access and activate auto trim.
Thx.

Increasing pitch servo gain to 1.65 (previously 1.50), and vertical speed gain to 1.15 (previously 1.0), worked for me. I still get some altitude variations when flying through thermals, but nothing like the +/- 200ft I previously experienced. Astore 914.

At this point I have no answers. I have been working with G3X support and they are trying different settings to rectify the problem. If anyone is having problems let them know. At this point they think I’m the only one with this problem. Ed

Ed- My autopilot is not trimming automatically. I receive "trim up" and "trim down" notices. How do I access and activate auto trim. Thx. Mine shows these messages also....is it not supposed to? I just thought these were informational messages telling me what the AP was doing. Is this an indication that I need to enable "auto trim"? Thanks. David

Even if auto trim is enabled you will get an occasional "trim up" or "trim down" message. If auto trim is NOT enabled you will be trimming for every speed or altitude change.

David,
I’m 100% sure your plane was set to auto trim when it was delivered to you. Not sure how it could have changed but things happen.
My point is if it’s not set to auto trim you will be trimming anytime you change speeds and that an occasional trim up or down Message is normal even if it’s set to auto trim.
No need to reply David but everyone is learning so more the more dialogue here the better😄

I've asked my avionics tech about autotrim, and he says it's not available on my factory-installed G3X system. Maybe he's missing something or maybe it really isn't installed. I rarely get trim messages, and primarily when I level off at cruise altitude and after I've begun a descent. I just blip the trim switch and wait a few seconds to see if the message reappears, since If you hold the trim button down until the message disappears, you will have overtrimmed. The air needs to be extremely rough for me to see trim messages at cruise. I had the same problem with my autopilot when my airplane was delivered. In my case, neither the factory nor Tecnam US had set up my autopilot (and many other things as well). I had a couple of flights this summer that we way rough, and I had excursions, but they were minor. I fly an Astore, so I don't know if my settings would be appropriate for a P2008, but if you'd like, I'll run out to the airport in the next couple of days and take photos of my settings. It took many adjustments to get it right.

I don’t have any issue with holding altitude—+/- 10 to 20 feet if I hit head wind changes. However, one minor glitch--and I do not how to address it, is that if I'm in straight and level and hit the ' blue button' on the AP, if I do not engage the 'hdg' control, the plane will enter a 3-5 degree turn to the left and just fly a big circle. Engage HDG as a supplemental and it will fly straight on the course you set it to with the hdg input. Has anyone else had to deal with this?
