Took my first long cross country with the new ship. Green Bay Wisconsin to Sarasota Florida. About 1100 nautical miles and 8.4 hrs. flying time. I know, pretty fast but I had 25-30 knot tailwinds the whole way. Looking at the plane this morning I was surprised by the extensive brown exhaust stain running all the way to the tail cone. I had cleaned the bottom a time or two since getting the plane in August but never like this. Exhaust stains were a minor issue on my earlier Cirrus ships. Some very early ships had an exhaust pipe modification for the single pipe outlet.
Anyone familiar with a pipe modification to mitigate the problem?

Here is one solution: tecnamtalk.proboards.com/thread/599/stainless-steel-exhaust-deflectorThat would work if the stain is from 100LL. Slightly overfilling the oil tank can also cause staining. The Rotax burns next to nothing for oil and topping up the tank on a cross country is rarely needed compared to a "conventional" engine. If does no harm, but the excess will be blown out the oil tank vent tube and down the belly.

Yes I can confirm staining will happen when oil is overfilled. Best to fill oil up to max line and no more as the rotax 912 uls burns very little oil. Exhaust extension not required. I tried many products to remove the stains. Polish works well but can strip the paint. Remove as much as possible with soapy water and cloth then Bowdens Own Orange Agent spray gets it off easily. I am now experimenting with new generation car ceramic sprays to protect the paint and make the bugs easier to clean off!
