I'm flying a brand-new P2008 coming from 172s. On pre-flight I always stand at the edge of the wings and horizontal stab and give a gentle shake up and down.
On the P2008, I noticed there is some "play" in the stabiliator when I do this - not much, but noticeable. Maybe .5" up/down and fore/aft.
My local mechanic disassembled the tail and said everything checks out, but I'm still a little leery of it.
Is this normal/within tolerances? I'd be curious to hear other opinions.

Some play is normal. If it feels excessive then you should investigate.

There are two bolts in the tail that have to be tightened. Several of us have had the same thing. I tightened mine six years ago and havenβt had the problem since. Have someone move the tail while your mechanic feels the attachment bolts and he will see which ones need to be tightened Ed

CZAR, You may want to check the bolts on the Lt. & Rt. Side of the stabilator. Tecnam installed the wrong size bolts on my airplane ( Mine was Brand New also ) so re-torquing the bolt made no difference. I contacted Josh at Sebring he sent the right bolts and nuts. The wrong bolts originally installed had a shoulder to short which meant the bolt threads were actually riding directly on the bearing surface causing they play your speaking about. I had about the same amount of play your talking about on your airplane. Once I changed the bolts out with the proper ones there is no play at all. To check the bolts the Lt. & Rt. Stabilator sides have to be removed took me several hours to complete the entire job. There is a small 2.5MM allen screw under the Stabilator on both sides, you have to make sure to loosen them other wise you can not remove the Stabilator. Hope this helps you let me know if you need any assistance always happy to help ππ»π Ray & Lucy πβ
