Thanks Jim! Thanks for the suggestion on the AOA indicator. I am getting one that will be on the Garmin screen. Do you have both an onscreen AOA and a dash mount?
On a separate note, do you have any pictures of your aircraft? Would love to see it!

I also have the AOA on the screen. The only problem with that is you have to look down during final to see it. With it mounted on the glare shield it is in your line of sight at all times. I will post pictures later.

Have any pictures yet?
And don't you hate a pest?

Greg: Since I am new on the forum, I am finally getting to read all the older stuff. I love your story. I think most of us have gone through a year or two of indecision, and struggled with decisions. I am glad you did not choose a CT. I know folks who have CT's and they are seldom happy over their choice. I am also glad you decided against the SportCruiser. That is the first LSA plane I flew in my decision process. I also think your decision to get a chute was smart. That is the only option I did not get and I regret it. My wife always fears when I fly because of that decision. Roger

I ultimately opted to purchase the Astore demonstrator ... Which doesn't have the chute. But I am single and so don't have the spousal factor. I think the chute is a little less important in the LSA segment; Greg and I have spent a lot of time going over the accident reports and given the low stall speeds, daytime/VMC limitations, there are fewer circumstances (in theory) where you would need one. Over half the LSA accidents are in the landing phase where it wouldn't help. A Cirrus, for example, intended to be flown at night and in IMC, presents a different risk profile in my judgment. But I do not dismiss the chute - to the contrary, it provides a real risk reduction of an admittedly low risk ... If I were ordering a new aircraft, I would get one with a chute.
There was some resistance on Tecnam's part to commit to a legal-weight new build 914 Astore with a chute, at least with the premium paint/finishes. One of the Bristell's advantages was the higher useful load - which meant that adding a chute was no problem. But that was a six-month wait and an over $35,000 price delta.... Which I decided was not worth the trade. If I had been able to get a 914 Astore with a chute, it would have cost perhaps another $20,000-25,000 plus 4 months... It was a tough and close call ...

I finally figured out why I am getting duplicate posts. It seems as all the posts do not appear on one page (at least on my computer). If there are multiple pages, when I post it always goes to the end (page 2), even though I may be responding to something on page 1. And of course, If I am looking and posting from page 1, the post disappears to page 2. So I keep adding the same post thinking it did not get posted. Hmmmm, slowly I am getting this forum figured out.

Well, as a lawyer, I always like to say the same thing multiple times if I can get away with it ... *laughing* Not to worry and glad you are getting it sorted out!

Well, I read the "rest of the story" by the cluemaster and in the beloved words of the late Paul Harvey,"now pge 2". After Mark left Tennessee he was nice enough to fly that same P2008 to KMZZ, Marion, Indiana where I met him around 11pm. I was really impressed with him over our phone conversations regarding the plane and was even more impressed when I met him in person. I got him a late supper, room and met him at the airport the next day. I actually had to stand in line to see the plane. Everyone loved it. Not only was Mark kind enough to take me up but our Airport Mgr and CFII, another CFI, and our A and P and except for one none of us are tiny. The plane was flawless the Turbo outstanding. I was interested but the cost was more than I thought I could spend and he tol me about a 2013 P2008 iS. That sounded like more my speed, so after he left, I arranged to fly to Minneapolis drive to Mankato to fly it with Patrick his partner and a CFII beyond compare. I liked the iS but right next to sat N587TA that Houston plane that I fell in love with. Well I just had to go up one more time and fortunately he hadn't sold it, so, yep I bought it. Patrick and I flew non stop from Mankato to Marion that sunday and sadly flew it back for some touch up but I had one great cross country flight with Patrick. Both Mark and Patrick are stellar fellows and I am privileged to know them both. I few weeks later they brought he back and I re-soloed almost 47 years to the day I did my first solo in a Cessna 150. My wife likes the idea of a chute so she's convinced to put an order in for a new 2017 P2008 which we finalized today at Air Venture. There are so many things I love about the plane, I'll be sad to sell her back. Sorry for the verbiage. I'm a 1 finger phone typist so this story took a while. I'm very happy and proud to be in the Tecnam family and hope to tour the factory next year. Much thanks to Mark and Patrick for everything. garyfrick

Hi Gary,
So you were the guy that was part two of that long road trip from Houston to Minnesota! I'm glad you liked the P2008 as much as I did. We are in Oshkosh as well, so would be happy to meet you in person and say hi. Let me know if you are at the show Saturday, and perhaps we can meet in person. Congratulations again!

To: Cluemeister, I would love to get together. Today is my wife's birthday and though I can think of no better place to spend it than Air Venture, she seems to have some doubts5, so I'll have to wait and see. As a side note I had the opportunity to eat lunch with Gary Black, a test pilot for Cirrus and worked on the parachute project. The thought is that unless your a 100% sure you can make the runway, pull the chute. Despite the safety factor, and he explained that if for example engine failure is the reason, and you land in a field Insurance won't cover the loss since engine failure isn't covered but if you pull the chute you get a new plane. Food for thought. I need to check that out with the AOPA. they had the best rates for me. Have a great day

Congratulations on your new P2008. You made a good choice. Your P2008 is equipped like mine less the chute . The only thing that I would add would be the Garmin GI 260, it is a dash mounted AOA indicator. You will want to have all have of you avionics installed up front, has it is difficult to add later. Thanks, Jim Stroud After coming to the show Jim, I am definitely getting the dash mount 260.

Great story page 2! I was part of the "ground team" that got your P2008 out of Houston and up to Mankato ... I also use the same Rotax mechanic and A&P that serviced that aircraft ... great guy and very conscientious, so I think your aircraft should be in great shape!
exciting about the new plane for 2017 but I think you'll find that the one you have is pretty sweet. I didn't fly that one, but I did fly Jetcat's Dad's turbo P2008 and I flew the iS 2008 you checked out on my visit to Mankato. And I echo your comments about Mark and Pat - great guys!
Enjoy your plane and welcome again to the forum!
