So the demo I've been flying has been sold, and I agreed to deliver the plane to the new owner in Macon, GA. It was a win win, as the new owner gets his plane, and I get a long xc under my belt. This would actually be my longest flight, as the solo x country for training was around 100 miles, and this flight was about 200.
I don't have my towered endorsement yet, so I had to fly around the ATL Bravo. Got up early, preflighted before dawn, and waited for civil twilight to come. Unfortunately as it did, the visibility dropped from 10sm to 6sm. "Mist". Then it crept back up to 8. Sky looked good from the ground, so I decided to go up in the pattern and check visibility nearby, as I knew heading south it was going to be better. Got up in the air, and no problem. I headed south!
Flocker had given me a quick lesson on flight following, so I wrote down exactly what to say, and said it to Chattanooga approach. They didn't complain, so I guess Flocker trained me well! I was not ready to be handed off about 5 times, but that just added to the experience. The skies were calm and gorgeous today, and I flew south with a slight west heading at 4500 feet. Flew right by the edge of ATL Bravo, and then took an easterly turn towards PXE, dropping down to 3500. All was good, and came into PXE and landed on Runway 36.
In addition to FF lessons, Flocker very generously offered to meet me at PXE in his aircraft, and fly me back home to TN. This time through the VFR corridor of ATL. I must say if you have never flown directly over ATL, you don't know what you're missing. Just incredible!
Flocker's plane was amazing, and his dual G3X were incredible tools to help us get us back. His fuel burn in the 912is was ridiculously low. He was working those G3X screens like a mad scientist!
We made it back from PXE to RZR in 1 1/2 hours. My wife followed my trip in both directions on flightradar24, and that gave her a little relaxation to watch the flight progress.
If somebody told me a year ago that this is what I would be doing on a Saturday morning, I wouldn't have believed them!
