Rubber hoses listed in the Rotax maintenance manual as a MUST be replaced every 5 years. Also the Tecnam P2008 Maintenance manual lists various hoses as a service life of 5 years. Sounds mandatory to me. However I think we all know people skip things all the time, whether by choice or accident. Its only a problem when it becomes a problem.

If anyone is still wondering if the 5 year hose and rubber replacement is optional, I offer this information.

Rotax uses the word "must" in reference to the 5 year hose replacement. And the FAA has defined "must" as meaing the same as mandatory.
